The 3 main categories of food are Protein, Carbohydrates, and Fats.
Then there are the various vitamins and minerals.
Here is where the most disinformation, lies and money making scams occur.
You can get all of what you need from good quality natural food.
Yes you heard that correct, but I’m going to say it again You don’t need to buy any of those muscle gaining, fat burning powders, bars or drinks because you can get everything you need by buying normal fresh food.

Protein.
Proteins are the building blocks of the cells in your body; they repair damage and maintain cells.

Carbohydrates.
Carbs are your body’s fuel, some carbs are fairly instant acting like sugars, and others take a little longer to work. All carbs are used by your body as fuel for muscles etc.

Fat.
Fat is used by your body as another source of fuel but on a longer time frame.
Fat in food that is not used by the body will be stored for later use.
This is done by the body in case we have times in the future where food is difficult to acquire. Your body has done this over thousands of years because before we had supermarkets, we had to live off the land and just as the seasons change then so does the availability of our food. Plenty in the good times, scarcer during winter for example.

A small note here on fats, there are 2 basic types, saturated and non-saturated.
The best way to view these is:
Saturated is concentrated and non-saturated is not so concentrated.

The more fats you consume in your diet the more chance there is that your body will store any it doesn’t need as body fat.
But don’t have too much of a downer on fats as you need them too for body functions.
Just don’t overdo them too much and give your body an easy job of converting them and making you fat.

Small meals at regular intervals are the best way to go. Ideally a meal should consist of approximately 60% carbs 30% Protein and 10% Fat, but that combination is hard to achieve in a meal that you’re going to have any enthusiasm to want to actually eat.
So accept that percentage is just a guide and try to work out meals along those lines that you will actually enjoy eating...A diet is the restricted intake of food over a set amount of time.
So you want a normal diet you can actually live with for the rest of your life and still enjoy it. If you are overweight now then let’s face it your normal diet so far has led to you eating more than you need and therefore storing that excess food as body fat...
This normal diet will have to be adjusted over time as you gain muscle, loose muscle, get older etc. As you and your circumstances change then so should your diet. Ok you say, that’s in the future, what about now?
Now you need to educate yourself on the 3 main food groups and how they relate to the food your eating now.
Don’t bother counting calories because:-
·The calorie is the amount of heat (energy) required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by 1 °C . So unless you’re going to raise the temperature of water then why are you concerned as to how many calories are in a particular food?
