If you have extra fat on your body then at some time in the past you have consumed more food then you needed and your body has stored it as fat.
People’s bodies store fat in slightly different regions but the golden rule your body applies whenever it stores fat is that it’s stored in a place on the body that doesn’t impede the body’s normal functions.
That’s why we put extra weight on around our waists, hips, tops of our legs etc.
If more fat is stored then it is stored outward from these points. Thus, any weight loss from the body, will be seen as the reversal of this process.
Any weight loss should be done over a length of time, because any quick fixes or short programs will probably produce results, but will soon be over and your normal diet will return.
Therefore, as it’s your normal diet that has made you overweight, it’s that normal everyday diet that needs changing.
I actually enjoy food and have personally noticed I can increase my food intake dramatically even to the point of eating high fat foods if I train hard and increase my muscle mass. However the opposite is also true, if I don’t train or exercise then my food intake has to drop dramatically or I put on weight. Once again there are no secret formulas or quick fixes to losing weight, its just sustained effort over a period of time.
You need to take back control over your body and make it do things you want it to do.
It’s impossible to lose excess fat from a particular area (ladies please note) as your body stores fat in a particular order. So if the storage of fat, in a certain part of your body, annoys you then an overall weight loss is needed to lose that fat. I am not saying you cannot improve the appearance of a particular part of you body by tightening up that area with exercise, because you can. But you can’t lose weight from a particular area of your body without losing it as a whole..
Having said all of that, the principle of losing weight is to use more energy than you consume by eating. It’s the balance between food consumed and energy used that decides what really happens to your body shape. This is always a difficult calculation to make as often times we only have our failure to get this balance right pointed out to us in the form of unwanted body fat. That’s why it is important to consider losing weight as being a long term goal. Ok we can lose a few kilos fast at the start of any program and there’s nothing like a little instant satisfaction from our efforts. But when this happens take it for what it is; - a short term fix. The big problems will only be solved through time and sustained effort, so be prepared to put that time and effort in.
